Mardi Gras celebration in Mobile

On Fat Tuesday, the parades always conclude with the Order of Myths, Mobile’s oldest continuously parading group, which debuted in 1868. Their emblem float is pulled by mules and always carries figures of Death and Folly racing around a broken column.

Mardi Gras scenes on Dauphin Island Alabama

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (AP) — Dauphin Island is holding  the first parade of the season in south Alabama.

The parade is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday on the Alabama Gulf Coast barrier island, accessible by bridge from Interstates I-65 and I-10, in addition to the Mobile Bay Ferry, which runs from nearby Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan, Alabama.

Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier says he expects to host up to 40,000 people in the island town, partly because it traditionally begins the parade season in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
